Rihanna to make history as she prepares to take on the fashion industry

Not only has Rihanna dominated the music scene over the past decade, smashed beauty barriers and tried her hand at acting, she is now taking on the world of luxury fashion.

After months of speculation, the pop icon has officially confirmed she is launching her own luxury fashion line, called Fenty, with the world’s biggest luxury group, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Not only is the news a win for fashion fans everywhere, but it’s a historical move that will see Rihanna – real name Robin Rihanna Fenty – become the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH and the first woman of colour to head a LVMH fashion House. Her line will be the first new house created by the group since Christian Lacroix in 1987.

“Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us,” Rihanna said in an official statement.

“Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”

The brand is set to launch in the next few weeks and will sell ready-to-wear clothes, shoes and accessories, and will be based in Paris. Fenty is named after the singer’s surname and mirrors her hugely successful make up line, Fenty Beauty, which launched in September 2017 and is also owned by LVMH.

Like the 31-year-old’s beauty range, which offers forty different shades of foundation and lingerie label, Savage X Fenty, which caters to woman of all different shapes and sizes, diversity and inclusivity is expected to become a cornerstone of the label.

“Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real CEO and a terrific leader,” said Bernard Arnault, the billionaire chairman and chief executive of LVMH.
